About
Round Rock Eyes doctors and opticians are talented and will provide excellent care for your visual needs.
If you are facing eye surgery, or exploring whether surgery might be right for you, Round Rock Eyes can guide you through the process. We co-manage care for patients undergoing cataract surgery, LASIK vision correction, and corneal cross-linking for keratoconus. Co-management means you get the surgical expertise of a specialist combined with the convenience of follow-up care close to home in Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, and the greater Austin area.
In co-managed surgical eye care, your optometrist and your surgeon work as a team. The surgeon performs the procedure. Your optometrist handles the clinical evaluation before surgery and the follow-up monitoring after.
Most of your appointments stay local, with you traveling to the surgical center only for the procedure itself.
We do not perform surgery. We provide thorough pre-operative assessments, honest candidacy and attentive post-operative care for each type of procedure we support.
Cataracts are a natural part of aging. The eye's lens gradually clouds, causing blurry, hazy vision that glasses can no longer fix.
Surgery replaces the clouded lens with a clear artificial lens (IOL). We provide the pre-operative measurements your surgeon needs, discuss IOL options with you before surgery, and monitor your recovery through the healing process.
LASIK uses a laser to reshape the cornea and reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses or contacts. Not everyone is a candidate, and we believe the best place to find out is an evaluation that is independent of the surgical center, one where the answer is based only on what is safe and appropriate for your eyes.
We evaluate corneal thickness and shape, prescription stability, dry eye status, and overall eye health. If you are a good candidate, we coordinate your referral. If not, we explain why and discuss your options.
Corneal cross-linking (CXL) is the only FDA-approved treatment to stop keratoconus from progressing. Keratoconus is a condition where the cornea thins and steepens over time, distorting vision in ways that glasses alone cannot correct.
Our role is threefold: detect keratoconus early through corneal topography screening, refer for CXL at the right time when progression is confirmed, and provide all post-operative monitoring and specialty lens fitting as the cornea stabilizes.
Independent opinions: We do not perform the surgeries, so our candidacy evaluations are based entirely on what is right for your eyes, not what generates revenue.
Continuity of care: Your pre-op and post-op appointments stay with the same doctors who know your eye history, rather than rotating through a busy surgical practice.
Local convenience: For patients in Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Pflugerville, keeping your follow-up visits close to home reduces travel burden during recovery.
Coordination with your surgeon: We communicate directly with surgical practices and ensure your records, measurements, and post-op findings are shared promptly
What types of surgery does Round Rock Eyes co-manage?
We currently co-manage cataract surgery, LASIK vision correction, and corneal cross-linking for keratoconus. Each has its own dedicated page with detailed information about what your evaluation and recovery visits involve. If you are considering a procedure not listed here, contact us and we will let you know whether we can support it.
Do I have to use a surgeon that Round Rock Eyes refers me to?
No. While we can recommend experienced surgeons we have worked with, you are always free to choose your own. If you already have a surgeon, we are happy to coordinate your co-management care with that practice.
Is co-management covered by insurance?
Pre-operative evaluations and post-operative co-management visits are typically billable to your medical or vision insurance. Coverage for the surgical procedure itself varies by type. Cataract surgery is generally covered, while LASIK is typically considered elective. We verify your specific benefits before your first appointment.
How far in advance of surgery should I schedule my pre-op evaluation?
The timing depends on the procedure. For LASIK, contact lens wearers need to stop wearing lenses well before their measurements are taken, we tell you exactly how long at your first visit. For cataract surgery, a few weeks of lead time is usually sufficient. Reach out to us as soon as surgery is being discussed and we will help you plan the timeline.
I am not sure which type of surgery I need. Can Round Rock Eyes help me figure that out?
Yes. A comprehensive eye exam is a good starting point. If we find cataracts, significant refractive error, or signs of keratoconus, we will discuss what treatment pathways are appropriate for your specific situation. You do not need to know which procedure you want before making an appointment.
